Thousands of partygoers cram into Wuhan water park for massive post lockdown pool party

Huge crowds rubbed shoulders at a water park within the city in China's Hubei province where the Covid-19 outbreak began in December.

The party at Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park included a DJ, and pool games as revelers swum and partied with inflatables.

There was little sign of social distancing at the rammed event - after around three months without one new case of domestically-transmitted coronavirus in Wuhan.

The city of 11 million had the primary outbreak of the virus which has spread round the world, sparking the pandemic with a price that has now topped 767,000.

The water park reopened in June after Wuhan's 76-day lockdown came to an end.

The pictures show the park operating at 50% capacity, in line with some continued restrictions, reports Metro.

The city-wide lockdown was lifted in April, and Wuhan has not reported any fresh Covid-19 cases of domestic transmission since mid-May.

The Hubei government has been offering discounted entry to tourism sites to spice up the province's economy because it emerges from lockdown.

Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park reportedly is among them, and is offering half-price entry for female tourists.

In the pictures a far cry from Wuhan's strict lockdowns months ago, revellers are often seen sitting on inflatables, and packing together shoulder-to-shoulder at the event.

Fireworks and performers placed on a spectacular water show for the pool-goers, who appear to number in a minimum of the hundreds within the pictures.

As of August 16, China had a complete of 84,849 confirmed coronavirus cases, it said.

China’s price from the coronavirus remained unchanged at 4,634.

The Xinjiang region in north west China reported an outsized spike in infections in recent months.
